Introduction

Since 2004 Cindy Jacobs has prophesied that Arizona will “take the point” regarding overturning abortion, raising up righteous government, and immigration reform.  “Arizona, take the point…you are called to be a tipping point!”

Arizona Week of Prayer

The following is a daily prayer guide for Arizona’s designated week of prayer.  This guide will focus on prayer for Arizona’s upcoming presidential primary as well as state elections and pressing issues facing the state. On February 28, 2012, the Arizona Republican Presidential Primary will be held. This is an important time for believers in Arizona and across the nation to pray as Arizona voters go to the polls.

Background on Arizona’s voting history in presidential elections:
Arizona joined the union in February 1912 as the 48th state and final piece of the continental United States. The state has traditionally gone Republican in presidential elections. Except for Bill Clinton’s win in 1996, Arizona has voted Republican since 1952. The Grand Canyon State’s population has grown rapidly in the past half century, and its number of electoral votes has almost tripled from four in 1960. While Arizona went “red” in 2008 with home state Senator John McCain as the nominee, the changing population composition may lead to its being considered as more of a swing state in future elections.

Arizona saw the 2nd largest percentage growth in population over the past decade (about 23%) and will gain one electoral vote, giving it 11 for the 2012, 2016 and 2020 presidential elections. This is the 6th consecutive Census where Arizona has gained at least one electoral vote.

Monday: Repentance for State and National Sins
Never in living memory has our nation needed God more—needed our prayers more!  God’s promise to Solomon is still true today:

If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and heal their land (2 Chronicles 7:14).

Understand that a state or nation cannot receive God’s blessing if it is built on sin and bloodshed. That type of foundation causes the people to labor and gain nothing. Pray, and ask that God’s mercy and forgiveness be poured out upon Arizona and the nation for the sins we have committed.

• Open your Bible to Exodus 20 and read as a declaration the Ten Commandments over Arizona and the nation. (For example: You shall have no other gods before Me, you shall not kill, you shall not commit adultery).
• Ask God to forgive you and the people of the land for breaking His commands (The Ten Commandments).
• Pray that God’s laws will be written on the hearts of the people of Arizona and the nation—and that monuments, plaques, laws, and statutes that honor God and His Word will be preserved as a testimony.
• Ask the Lord to forgive you and the people of the land for electing leaders who promote lifestyles contrary to the Bible.
• Pray for God to have mercy on America and stay His hand of judgment.

For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will imprint My laws upon their minds, even upon their innermost thoughts and understanding, and engrave them upon their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be My people (Heb. 8:10, AMP).

Tuesday: Arizona Presidential Primary, February 28, 2012
Pray for the 2012 United States Presidential Election. Our next president will have an enormous impact on the direction of our country, and it has never been more critical that we elect a leader who shares our godly values.
• Pray that people will seriously seek God in how they vote.
• Pray that people will not put economics or politics above the godly and biblical foundations upon which America was founded.
• Pray for God’s Spirit to fill the voting booths and guide people as they vote.
• Pray that huge numbers of godly people will turn out to vote.
• Pray for people to follow God’s guidance not just political parties.
• Pray for elections to be conducted with honestly, that ballots will be counted and reported accurately.
• Pray that God will give us godly leaders of integrity who will govern in wisdom and righteousness.

Wednesday: Arizona United States Senate and House of Representatives Race
All United States Senate and House of Representatives seats will be up for election in 2012. Pray that across Arizona and the nation, qualified candidates who support godly values that bless and help the people will win elections. Pray for Arizona’s two senate seats:

• Arizona United States Senator John McCain is up for re-election while Arizona’s junior United States Senator, Jon Kyl, will not be seeking reelection in 2012. It is too early to know who will run for the seat vacated by Jon Kyl. Pray for the candidates seeking to replace him and that they will fight for life, marriage, and religious liberty in Washington, D.C.
• Arizona is divided into eight congressional districts. These include: Rep. Paul Gosar, (R-AZ1), Rep Trent Franks (R-AZ2), Rep Ben Quale (R-AZ3), Rep. Ed Pastor (DAZ4), Rep David Schweikert (R-AZ5), Rep. Jeff Flake (R-AZ6), Rep. Paul Grijalva (D-AZ7), Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ8) who has resigned.  The election for the US. House of Representatives is set for November 6, 2012 while the special election to replace Giffords has been set for April 17 by Governor Brewer.  Pray that all these seats be filled with qualified godly righteous leaders.

Thursday: Arizona State Senate and House of Representatives Elections
Every seat in Arizona’s Senate and House of Representatives will be up for election in 2012.
• Pray for the candidates in each of the 30 newly drawn districts and that they would make godly values their priority during their campaigns.
• The Arizona house and senate currently have a majority of pro-life and pro-family members. Pray that regardless of the party composition, that the majority of both the senate and house will hold pro-life and pro-family convictions.

Friday: The Southwest Border
As a border state, Arizona is both the perpetrator and the victim of crimes such as drug and human trafficking, violence, and arms smuggling.
• Repent on behalf of Arizonans for our greed demonstrated by the selling of drugs, arms, and sex and for our appetite for these evils, which provides a market for Mexico.
• Pray for God’s transforming presence to fill the border, exposing darkness and changing hearts.
• Pray for healing of the US and Mexico, that we would work together to reduce crime and solve problems resulting in reciprocal benefits for both nations.
• Pray that out of Arizona will come a righteous and just plan for immigration reform-that Arizona will take the point for the nation in solving immigration issues.

Saturday: Arizona Business/Economy

For many years Arizona had one of the most robust economies in the nation. According to the Phoenix Business Journal, by 2009 Arizona had the third weakest economy in the U.S. In December 2011 Arizona’s unemployment rate was 8.7 %, just over the 8.5% national average. At the end of 2011, according to the same report, Arizona ranked next to last in job and wage growth, and 48th in home value and income growth.  In 2011 Arizona’s economy improved only modestly, according to a report by the University of Arizona forecast director. Housing markets are still depressed; foreclosures ranked third among states in October 2011.

• Pray that Arizona will attract God-honoring commerce that creates new jobs. Pray for businesses that promote unholy lifestyles to be exposed and shut down and their owners to find Jesus Christ.  Ask God to bring in business and commerce that would honor Him and bless the people.
• Ask the Lord to place wise leaders in office who have the ability to create jobs and govern the economy prudently.
• Stand in the gap and ask God to forgive those business leaders in real estate and other business sectors for greed and corruption, which have opened the door to Arizona’s real estate market crash.
• Arizona motto’s is Ditat Deus, which means God enriches. Pray that the Lord will honor Arizona’s acknowledgement that He is provider and will enrich the state spiritually and economically.

Sunday: Arizona Family/Church
Arizona families have been adversely affected by the economy. For many students the only meals they eat are those provided at school.  In some schools as many as 70-90 percent of students are on the free lunch program. At least one Arizona high school has a homeless shelter adjacent to its campus.  Domestic violence, drugs, and gambling (made readily available through the proliferation of Arizona’s casinos) also contribute to the breakup and dysfunction of Arizona families.

• Pray for the healing of families across Arizona. Ask God to send a revival to families, causing many in entire bloodlines to become born-again. Ask God to restore any broken marriages for which you are aware.  Pray for reconciliation between parents and children and to repair breeches among other family members. Turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers… (Malachi 4:6, NKJV)
• Pray for financial provision for Arizona families.
• Many Arizona Christian churches and organizations are collaborating in an effort to see every child that needs a family adopted out of foster care into a safe godly environment.  Pray for success of this initiative.

Electoral Events

Arizona State Primaries: Tuesday, August 28, 2012

Candidates

Candidates for Arizona races can file until June 2012. Pray for qualified, honest, dedicated, and godly leaders to enter the senate and legislative races.

Pending Bills

1.) Pray for the ballot measure in 2012 that would improve the judicial selection process in Arizona. The ballot measure will increase the checks and balances in selecting judges and bring greater transparency to Arizona’s judicial selection system.

2.) Pray that Arizona’s citizens and legislators will recognize the great harm to families caused by gambling and rejects expanding casinos and racetracks in 2012. A citizen’s initiative has been filed that would vastly expand racetracks and casinos across Arizona and remove the state’s ability to limit gambling on Indian reservations. The initiative’s organizer must obtain 173,000 resident signatures before July for it to appear on the 2012 ballot.

Current Elected Officials

Prayer points for these officials and the 2012 Legislative Session
• Pray for Governor Jan Brewer, her family, and her staff. Pray for godly wisdom as she reviews and considers bills being passed by legislature in 2012.

• Pray for the new leaders of the Arizona Senate and House of Representatives, Senate President Steve Pierce and Speaker of the House Andy Tobin. Pray that each of them will have a smooth adjustment into leadership and would promote an agenda that builds up and blesses Arizona families.

• Pray for all Arizona legislators and their families. Thank the Lord for their service and commitment. Pray for wisdom as they propose and support legislation throughout the 2012 legislative session.

• The 2012 Arizona legislature will be considering a bill to protect religious liberty for professionals and government officials. Pray that this important piece of legislation will be passed and signed by the Governor to ensure that Arizona law protects religious expression.

• Pray for the successful passage of all 2012 legislation that protects life, supports families, and upholds religious liberty. In 2011, more than 1,300 bills were introduced into the legislature and it is critical that the bills supporting families be heard and given final votes.

• Pray for Governor Brewer as she battles the continued attacks on Arizona’s Day of Prayer. Although a federal court recently ruled in favor of the Governor, opponents are considering other legal options to challenge commemorating a Day of Prayer in Arizona.
