The Hinge of History
Sep 17 - Cindy Jacobs
There come moments in the course of history in which a particular generation will either open the door to righteous governance or begin a massive decline in their known civilization. I call this kairos (or strategic) moment a hinge of history.
As you know, the hinges of a door support the weight for that which allows either entrance or exit. In this article, the hinges I refer to are the watchmen on the wall for their nations. These watchmen peer into the coming season that to others seems to be only darkness and begin to cry out a warning.
Prophetic intercessors are those kind of “watchmen” (and women) who, long before anyone else notices the decline of a nation, see it coming. They, in a manner of speaking, bear the weight in intercession for their particular countries or cultures. In this sense, they are a hinge.
Around eight years ago, after we had moved back to Texas from Colorado Springs, Colorado, I was reading the novel Texas by James Michener. It recounted how empires who once settled this state had lost a portion of their greatness. I sensed the Holy Spirit whispering to me, “Don’t think that cannot happen to the United States.”
Before the 2008 elections, I prophesied about the importance of that year’s elections. The reminder from the Lord was that if we elected officials that were not for a biblical worldview, we would lose a portion of the greatness God had given us. This has happened on many levels.
And now, we are once again at a hinge of history. Only God can give this nation the turn around that it needs. It is a serious and somber moment. The good news is that God has not stopped being a prayer-hearing God. The next United States election will determine the way we will go.
I see the weight of the door of history being held by two urgently needed things - an awakening and a reformation. First of all, the church must awaken and be a voice; then we need to reform the nation back to being one nation under God.
The Lord is looking for those who will pray as you have never prayed before and act like the weight of being a hinge of history rests upon your shoulders only. We must let our voices resound both in heaven and earth for this nation to once again be restored to the vision God gave our founders - a city set on a hill for all to see.
