The Elections Have Begun
Oct 25 - Adela Just
While the majority of Americans will cast their votes in less than two weeks on November 6, many states opened the polls this week for early voting. To find out if your state participates in early voting, click here.
This election cycle has been long and emotionally charged. The nation is very sharply divided over the ideologies represented by the candidates and their respective parties. Social media sites have been full of comments for weeks now that people are just ready for this to be over.
As believers, we can not back down yet, no matter how weary we may be. This is an urgent hour for our nation, and we must see this process through, covering it in prayer to the final moments.
David Kubal, president and CEO of Intercessors for America, sent out a prayer alert this week as the Lord had impressed on his staff a sense of urgency for the body of Christ. The Church, and especially intercessors, may experience increased spiritual attack in these final days before the election. He offered the following words of wisdom and prayer points:
1. Meet anger with civility: there is potential for the enemy to stir anger in these final moments before the election and the antidote to this is civility and love (Gal. 5:22).
2. Face oppression with praise: there may be a strong sense of depression (really it’s oppression), and this can be fought with thanksgiving and praise (Ps. 100:4).
3. Push through complacency with courage: there is the possibility that hopelessness could set in resulting in complacency, and this can be fought with godly courage (Deut. 31:6).
Jon Hamill from Lamplighter Ministries also issued a call to prayer concerning the division facing our nation. If Mitt Romney is elected, there have been threats of rioting in the streets. If Obama is re-elected, there is talk of people pushing their states to secede from the Union. You might be tempted to dismiss this as rumors or people overreacting, but undoubtedly the enemy wants to and has been working hard to forge division in this nation. We can not dismiss the possibility of an eruption over the election outcome.
However, over the past several years, there have been prayer initiatives carried out, both through the original 13 colonies and through Civil War battlegrounds, as intercessors have cried out to the Lord over our nation, repenting and seeking the Lord for a re-establishment of righteous covenant.
Jon concludes:
I am recounting this because Holy Spirit quickened our journey to me again while praying about potential riots. I believe the Lord has already granted His people significant earned authority to pray into this and see the potential for “civil war” lessened or negated altogether.
Instead of violence and division, we can see awakening and union overtake the land. Again, our enemy in the spirit would try to motivate people to X out our land. But [through prayer], we can see the protection afforded by God’s bridal canopy fully realized.
As we finish the final leg of this election journey, we urge you to join with us in two powerful opportunities, both taking place on October 31. The first is the Bridal Canopy Initiative. Prayer and worship will be offered up at the four corners of every state, at the same time. For more information, see your individual state’s page on USRPN.org and contact your state coordinator for details.
If you are unable to participate in the Bridal Canopy Initiative, join us for Reformation Day. If you are in the Dallas area, we will meet at Christ for the Nations Institute in Dallas, TX to worship and pray for our nation. The event will also be live streamed online, so you can join us from your home. Just go to www.generals.org and click on the link provided.
Whichever event works best for you and your family, please mark your calendar for next Wednesday, October 31 and join us for a united prayer surge before Election Day. Let’s see the enemy’s plan for our nation stopped and the kingdom of God established in our land!
